New Office of the Year, Poland
„Maraton” was designed as a 6-storey office building. Its last level is back from the main line of elevation to comply with land development conditions decision and refer to neighbouring buildings. The “H”-shape plan of building creates two external courtyards. The northern one has a public character and function of the city square. The southern is located from residential side. The recessed part of west elevation refer to next-door “Maraton Gardens” buildings line. This made it possible to keep the orderly urban development. Different widths of vertical facade elements and regular rhythm of panels bring out horizontal articulations and optically stretch the main elevation. This action has been applied to better fit into the urban context, especially with respect to proportions of the neighborhood building of Academy of Physical Education. Toned down colors (grayscale, white and black) refer to colors of adjoining buildings.
