The most important projects completed between October 2015 and September 2016
In 2015 the city has finished investments worth PLN 1.1 billion and among the most important there are:
- the construction of National Road no 1 – “Górna Route” – December 2015 – the value: PLN 292.2 million including PLN 198.3 million from the EU funds
- expansion and modernization of tram route East-West direction (Retkinia – Olechów) – December 2015 – value: PLN 741.7 million, including PLN 450 million from the EU funds
- Revitalization of EC-1 and its adaptation to cultural-artistic purposes – December 2015 – value: PLN 265 million, including PLN 82.6 million from the EU funds
Major projects planned for 2017
In the upcoming years the authorities of the city will continue the successful process of revitalization that has been initiated a few years ago, focusing on activities in selected areas and widely-understood social revitalization. The process of revitalization of the city centre includes chosen centrally-located quarters (8 of them in the first stage). Additionally, the biggest investment is also conducted – the New Centre of Łódź and the new, underground train station Łódź Fabryczna. The main financial source for the projects will be EU funds.
Major current projects
The projects that are in course at the moment include:
- revitalization of 8 priority quarters chosen out of the 55 areas of the global revitalization (the task will be realized within the frameworks of 1-8 projects in the years 2015-2023); value: PLN 1 billion, including PLN 589 billion from the EU funds
- revitalization of the city area by 3, 5 Moniuszki Street and 10 Tuwima Street (the New Centre of Lodz); realized in the years 2016-2018; value: PLN 51.2 million, including PLN 33.28 million from the EU funds
- revitalization of EC-1 South-East; realized in the years 2016-2019; value: PLN 20 million
- revitalization of EC-1 – development of functions and services offered by the EC-1 Łódź; realized in 2016-2017; value: PLN 68.8 million
- road infrastructure within the frameworks of the New Centre of Lodz (reconstruction of roads around the multi-modal Łódź Fabryczna railway station

The encouraging and advantageous business environment of Łódź allows investors to start and develop their economic operations here. A dedicated Investor Service Manager from the Investor Service Bureau, City of Łódź Office coordinates all actions related to the investment in the phase of preparation, implementation and afterwards. The intensity of public aid for small enterprises can reach as much as 55% or 35% in case of large enterprises. The Youth in Lodz programme offers support for the promotion and creation of a positive image of the Investor, in particular in terms of acquiring new employees. The Łódź’ activities encouraging new investments were noticed by fDi Intelligence which ranked the city 1st place in the FDI Strategy category of Polish Cities of the Future 2015/16 ranking.

Łódź is a city of a great potential mostly because of its central location in the heart of Poland. The city is close to the capital, which can be reached from Łódź in 60 minutes by car and in a little more than an hour and a half by train, but also, thanks to a net of motorways and roads, is perfectly connected with other Polish cities such as Wrocław, Toruń, Gdańsk or Katowice. A factor of great importance is also outstanding cooperation between the universities and the business as the city is a very strong education and scientific centre with over 20 public and private higher education institutions. In order to meet the expectations of the employers universities in Łódź offer courses in foreign languages, but also, bearing in mind the needs of the companies located in Łódź, graduate studies focusing on the issue of linguistic skills for the BPO/SSC and IT sectors were opened.

Thanks to the adopted “Integrated Development Strategy for Lodz 2020+” the city has a coherent vision of the direction in which it wants to develop and the path it wants to follow. The City offers support of specialists from the Investor Service Bureau who help investors in all stages of their undertaking. There are also programs dedicated for young people, such as the “Youth in Łódź”, which is a platform between the students and the business. Apart from that, among the initiatives that are worth mentioning there is “Łódź creates workplaces” - a promotional campaign for the companies operating in the city. As a part of the strategy Łódź has also initiated revitalization of the heart of the city and launched the New Centre of Łódź project. The 100-hectares area in the centre of the city is going to be transformed into a modern and functional district thanks to investments conducted together by the city, railway companies and private investors.
