Born in 1954, Dieter Müller began his career at Accor in 1975. In 1987, he teamed up with a partner to found the Astron hotel chain. Since then he has focused on the development and strategic expansion of Motel One. In 2009, he was named ‘Hotelier of the Year’ – the most prestigious accolade in the industry. This was followed in 2016 by the IHIF Lifetime Achievement Award and the Game Changer Award from Bain & Company and the Manager Magazin in 2018.

Description of the entry into the Polish market
The Brands first hotel in Poland, Motel One Warsaw-Chopin, is a new spot on the map for Warsaw. Located on Tamka Street, south of the river Vistula and vis a vis the Frederic Chopin Museum and Institute, it combines an unusual music-inspired interior design with affordable prices and the perfect location for discovering Warsaw’s countless restaurants and sights. The One Lounge, bar, meeting room and 333 rooms, all show that Motel One, a brand well known across Europe, understands guests experience and sets new standards in the world of hospitality. Prices start at 259 zł per night for a single room and are fixed for the remainder of the year. The healthy breakfast includes a large range of organic products and fair-trade coffee, which can be booked as an add on for only 40 zł. Further benefits include secure parking in an underground garage, free high-speed Wi-Fi throughout the hotel, luggage storage as well as an open reception around the clock.
The origins of the company and how it started out
1999 - Dieter Müller and Philippe Weyland come up with the idea for Motel One while having breakfast together in a small café in the Haidhausen district of Munich. 2000 - The Motel One brand is born and the first hotel opens in Frankfurt-Offenbach. 2003 - Motel One is attracted to city centres. The Motel One Berlin-Mitte hotel opens its doors. 2005 - The Motel One design concept is developed. 2006 - In Nuremberg and Hamburg, the turquoise egg chair moves in for the first time, and the first One Lounges provide an inviting space for guests to relax and unwind. With clear positioning as a low budget design hotel, Motel One assumes a pioneering role in Germany.

Plans for the future / expansion plans and information on how they have been pursued so far
The group continues to maintain a healthy development pipeline, consisting of 27 hotels with 8,107 rooms. The third quarter of 2019 has already seen the opening of Motel One Warsaw-Chopin, the brand’s first hotel in Poland, and the group will open new hotels in Munich and Linz. Incuding this development pipeline, the brand will reach a total of 98 hotels with 28,300 rooms (previous year: 94 hotels with 27,500 rooms).
