Short information about architectural firm(s) : |
JEMS was founded in 1988. Starting up as an independent practice at a time of democratic change in Poland, JEMS joined the push for the restoration of a Polish architectural culture. The cooperation of the partners matured in an office/workshop formula, offering an inspiring space for an exchange of a variety of ideas. JEMS has grown from a small design office into a 60-strong team of architects. |
Brief information about the project from an architectural point of view: |
ICC Katowice was intended to be the manner of organizing site rather than a building itself. The architectural structure is simple - shoe box with roof forming green valley as public trespass. Black asphalts around continue as anthracite aluminium mesh, folding into the inner space of main foyer. The internal structure based on main foyer as diagonal of a box is emphasized by rigourous material use and regime. |
