REFUGE for BIRDS and INSECTS: “Build an animal oasis with us”

Auchan Łomianki Shopping Mall (since October 2017 under brand Galeria Łomianki) is located close to Kamipinowski Park Narodowy. As Auchan Łomianki / Galeria Łomianki aims to become a part of local community, ecology constitute a privileged issue in its actions and communication. Within the project “Good neighbor” Shopping Mall Auchan Łomianki realized a sub-project of refuge for birds and insects “Build an animal oasis with us” . Purpose of the project : • increase of pro-ecological awareness, • realization of ecological target, • involvement of local community. Target group: “Moja Szkoła” primary school students Description of the project: In cooperation with “Moja szkoła” primary school we set an ecological program. During the biology classes students built and take care of refuge for insects, birds, and surrounding vegetation. This way children learn about the significance of insects and birds for ecosystem. Project sensitizes students, develop their responsible attitude and selflessness, encourage young persons to play wise outdoor games and activities instead of staying home with computer. This multistage, continuous project plays educational role, supports ecological commitment. Summary of the project: • Involvement of two classes of the school “Moja Szkoła” in the continuous project • Participants built 30 nesting boxes • 65 children took part In the contest for the name of the Refuge for insects • Auchan Łomianki shopping mall is the first polish commercial site to lead such an educational project of “Refuge for insects” • Communication about the project was held on the Auchan Łomianki website, Facebook, in the local press
