Investment expenditure of the City of Łódź for 2017: PLN 652 million

- City stadium, 138 Piłsudski Avenue – PLN 119.8 million - Reconstruction of road system around the Widzew Łódź stadium: PLN 31.6 million

In the upcoming years the authorities of the city will continue the successful process of revitalization that has been initiated a few years ago focusing on area activities and widely-understood social revitalization. The process of revitalization of the city centre includes chosen centrally-located quarters (8 of them in the first stage). Additionally, the biggest investment is also conducted – the New Centre of Lodz and the new, underground train station Łódź Fabryczna. PLN 930 million was planned for their realization, PLN 516 million being the input of the city, the rest – EU funding. The task will be realized in the years 2016-2023.

In the programming time period of 2014-2020 the City of Łódź plans realization of 44 projects of the common value of PLN 3,109,919,960.28 (including own contribution on the level of PLN 1,214,944,375.91; EU funding PLN 1,894,975,584.37).

The encouraging and advantageous business environment of Łódź allows investors to start and develop their economic operations here. A dedicated Investor Service Manager from the Investor Service Bureau, City of Łódź Office coordinates all actions related to the investment in the phase of preparation, implementation and afterwards. The intensity of public aid for small enterprises can reach as much as 55% or 35% in case of large enterprises. The Youth in Lodz programme offers support for the promotion and creation of a positive image of the Investor, in particular in terms of acquiring new employees. Apart from that, among the initiatives it is worth mentioning campaigns such as “Łódź creates workplaces”, which is a promotional campaign for the companies operating in the city. The city is also active in terms of presenting its assets on international events and fairs such as MIPIM or Expo Real, as well as organizing its own seminars and conferences aimed at attracting investors to Lodz.

Łódź is a city of a great potential mostly because of its central location in the heart of Poland. The city is close to the capital, which can be reached from Łódź in 60 minutes by car and in a little more than an hour and a half by train, but also, thanks to a net of motorways and roads, is perfectly connected with other Polish cities such as Wrocław, Toruń, Gdańsk or Katowice. One of the biggest assets of Łódź is its potential in the field of higher education. 70 thousand students, including 6 thousand taking various IT courses, learning at over 23 higher education institutions and more than 30 thousand graduates, the majority of which are fluent in at least one foreign language, ensure a wide access to perfectly educated staff. We should also remember extensive road investments currently carried out. Both within the city and around it existing roads are constantly rebuilt and new ones constructed. In the near future Łódź will become the first city in Poland having a bypass comprising motorways and expressways. The so-called ring will consist of: A2 motorway from the north, A1 motorway from the east, S8 expressway from the south and S14 from the west.

Among the investors who started their investment process in 2017 there are: Skanska, Ghelamco (NCŁ), Echo Investment - (office investments), Panattoni, Prologis (warehousing investments), Murapol, Profbud (residential investments). We have been observing a growing interest in our city both among office developers (great demand for modern office space, low vacancy rate, competitive rental prices), warehousing developers (central location, development of e-commerce), but also residential developers (increase of wages of inhabitants, shortage of new flats especially in the centre of the city, interest in buying a flat as an investment – for further rental.

Well-communicated location in the centre of Poland, well-educated staff, easily accessible office space and international business environment count among assets that allow the city to attract new investments. Thanks to the adopted “Integrated Development Strategy for Lodz 2020+” the city has a coherent vision of the direction in which it wants to develop and the path it wants to follow. The City offers support of specialists from the Investor Service Bureau who help investors in all stages of their undertaking.
